Well, after the stirling advice given by the experienced canon professional lens owners on this forum, I decided not to get the 85mm 1.2 L and bought a Nikon D300.
The temptation of the 105vr micro was too much so I'll be getting one at the end of the month.
Sure it's not a 5D but, it is a great camera to use and the results are good enough for me.

Once again; Many thanks.

Thanks.

I get a feeling I'll be less than welcome here but hey! it's about pictures at the end of the day.

You might have to stand up to some robust interrogation, but many of our members use gear from the dark side. Bill Ng, mdjak, to name a couple, and there are loads more.

I have to admit if I was starting from scratch that D300 looks great - but I'm not, so it's out of the question. On a personal level I am really looking forward to Canon's answer to nikon's improvements.

Hopefully the two companies will keep each other on their toes for a long time to come, and this can only benefit their customers, whatever colour their neck strap is!

All very true indeed.

That said, I do still have a Canon Ixus 75 so I guess that makes me ambidextrous.:D

I played with a D300 at a recent NZIPP meeting, it seemed solid and well built, but I couldn't work out how to use it. I also played with a D3 sporting a Leica 50 F1.2 or 1.4 MF, it was a tank, and at ISO25000 or so it still took pretty amazing images.

Cameras are tool, choose whatever works for you. Show good photos and no-one worth your attention will care. Show crap photos and you'll get what you deserve ;)
