Finished gathering up my portable studio lights.. If only I had some customers to try them on :D Thought I'd share, brag, whatever. Power pack is approximately 10"X 6"X 6" and just testing it cycles my 2- 300WS lights at full power in 2 sec which is the same as plugged into household outlet. It has a 12ah battery which I believe should give me at least 300 flashes from both lights at full power.

I attached the cigarette lighter plug to the back to charge the battery from the car while going down the road. Set up cost me about $170.00. I plan on repainting the little box black so it will be pretty.

Looks interesting. Wouldn't it be better to mount it all in a soft bag of some sort so you're not lugging that wooden box?

What are the brands and components used?

Not sure about the soft bag. I lean towards bullet proof type storage..I have a plan to put this with another Tupperware type tote that has my backdrops in it on a collapsable dolly for transport so I'm not lugging it around actually but after I use it some I may change my mind.

The inverter is an AIMS 300W Pure Sine Wave inverter, and I bought the sealed lead acid battery locally from a place that sells wheelchair batteries. It's a 12AH battery but I liked the weight and I knew it would fit in the box with the inverter.

Nice, for those not so mechanically inclined, you might try something like this Duracell portable power pak which can also jump start your car. :)

Three three-pronged AC outlets to power multiple loads
One DC outlet
Built-in 600-watt inverter
Sealed, non-spillable 28 amp hour AGM battery
AM/FM radio

Whatever you use be careful of the inverter. Some have square wave output which can damage electronics and some have sine wave output (though many are not a TRUE sine wave). Do your homework before you buy.

I don't think the Duracell is a Pure Sine Wave inverter though...

Some info on modified sine wave and true sine wave.

Note the following which is clipped from the FAQ text at the link below:

Garage door openers, laser printers and large strobes used in photography have all been reported as trouble loads for MSW inverters; they either don’t work at all or stop working entirely, so don’t take a chance – use TSW.

Xantex makes the Duracell units according to the description on Amazon.
