indoor flash shots, am i getting there?

btw it seems to me that for chinese people white balance doesnt do much good, i had to desaturate all images to get the yellow skin a bit fair, instead of showing up all yellow in these pics. for more check my flickr acct in my signature.

In the first set, the first one looks good. In the second one, you can see the flash trail off with distance from the camera. A tighter crop might have been better, unless you had to have the wine glasses in the shot.

In the second set, the first image has the same problem as the wine glasses, only more so. The power of the flash decreases with distance. With this great depth of field, the people closer to the camera will be overexposed and those farthest away underexposed. The minor saving grace appears to be an overhead tungsten light that evened out the illumination a little. Try not to have much depth of field in on-camera flash pictures.

The last image illustrates this point. All three subjects are in the same plane, so their all evenly exposed. The shadows confuse me. It looks like there were two light sources on the left and a third overhead and a little to the right.
