why should someone pay $125 sitting fee for in studio portraits when 2 miles away Walmart and Target will do them much cheaper..

If all you offer is walmart/mall style pictures and quality they wont. You have to be different and unique in your style, personality, customer service and possibly availalbility.

The latter. 99% of my work and income is on CD jobs. The other 1% was my first half a year in business. I don't know how it works everywhere, but from the point when I started charging for my time, I've always been selling the service and including a CD as part of my own "gimmick."
