Hello all,

I spent the day in DC with family, and grabbed a few pictures. I'd love your c & c.

#1 is an interesting shot that illustrates the rule of including a person to demonstrate scale. Good job. The biggest problem I have is the the right side of the monument is overexposed, causing a loss of detail. It might have been better to put your subject here and drop the exposure by an f/stop. I would also clone out the shadow that intrudes from the right edge.

I thought #2 was a nice composition until I scrolled my browser and saw all those flags on the right pushing the main subject all the way over to the left. I would crop this one right before the first flag that is in shadow.

#3 This one I don't get. What are you trying to say here. My eye is drawn to all those people walking away from the camera. It's too busy.

Thanks for the comments Joe.

On 1, I didn't pose that shot. I looked up and there it was, but I agree that the blown out right side takes away from it.

I like your crop suggestion on 2, thanks.

On 3, I tend to agree with. What I liked about the picture was the playful child vs the serious adults, but I think I think that gets lost in the jumble.

Anyway, many thanks for taking the time.

I think #1 is just great. It reminds me of a very old and famous photo of someone sun-bathing in the Mediterranean or Black Sea areas.
#2 is pretty good but there are strong but unrelated portions of the picture that just do not come together in my mind with a common message or purpose.

#3 is too busy and looks like a simple snapshot - perhaps I'm missing something there.

Loved the first one. Am kind of envious that I didn't get that shot when I was at DC the last time.

The second and third shots made no impression at all. Forgettable.

The only comment I'm going to make on these is in regards to #2. I think it's a cool shot but the expression on the kid's face (in my mind at least) just screams "Dad...do I really have to stand here for another picture?", LOL!!! I think I might have waved a brand new Gameboy or something in front of him to get him to smile a little.

Peace,
Jim

LOVE #1. I can see detail in the highlighted area. Not perfect, but enough to be good. I was liking it as I scrolled down, but when I saw the person at the base that just completed it for me. Perfect illustration of scale.

I'm going to have to agree that #1 is the best of the series. I would like to see more texture in the monument though. I thought the texture got washed out too much, especially in the highlights.
