Hi Everyone,

I am going to be getting the Canon PS SD850 soon for a trip to Europe, and I was wondering what accessories you all would recommend. I am thinking about getting one extra battery and at least 2 2gb memory cards. Does name brand really matter on either one? I ask because I saw this memory card (external link) and I'm wondering if I should go with a name brand. For the price, I would definitely buy 2 4gb cards instead of 2 2gb cards. I also saw this battery (external link) that seems to be the store brand equivalent of the powershot battery.

If anyone could let me know if name brand matters, or any other accessory I should get, please let me know. Sorry for the long post!

Get a reliable manufacturer's memory cards. I've got/had around 20-25 SanDisk cards of various sizes and capacities; only one has ever failed; I recovered everything from it and SanDisk replaced it for me. Needless to say, that's what I use exclusively. Batteries - a lot of us here go to Sterlingtek (external link).

Thanks for your help! So, would this be a good deal? And I don't need a high speed card even if I'm going to be taking video right? http://www.amazon.com …ics&qid=1210298077&sr=8-2 (external link)

Also, about how many pictures do you think one of these would hold? I know it largely depends on the quality I choose but I just need a rough estimate.
Thanks again.

That'll hold around 400 photos at Large Superfine (the best resolution, which is all I ever set my camera to) on an 8 MP camera, or 16 or so minutes of video at 640x480x30 fps. I'd get a couple or three; I've successfully recorded 9 min. clips (the max. my A620 can handle) on one of those although I mostly get the Extreme IIIs so they can see double duty in my DSLRs as well when needed (via a SDHC-CF adapter). If you're planning on shooting much video (or accidentally flip the switch to the video position), take that into consideration in deciding how many to get. And remember, Canon recommends a low level format of the card in-camera if you plan to use it for video.
