Hi Y'all

i tend to just jump in and offer cc, but i think it is only fair for others to do the same for me... so here's a shot from last night at a retirement party... this wasn't any kind of a 'session' so i don't pose anyone, but this little girl was clutching onto her mom while mom was filling out some forms. It was mid-evening and indoors and the light was hard to find. And for this little gal, i was shooting from the hip (not even looking thru the viewfinder) because i didn't want to disturb her look.

You know, it is funny, but i've been viewing the image full size on my 24" imac while editing and never realized until i made the small image that the area behind her isn't a couch like i thought, but a woman's backside! LOL... maybe i should do something about that and make it a bit less obvious.

I would have never known it as a "backside" if you hadn't said that...

She is sooo cute.. I really like this shot and I think you did really nice. I also like your conversions.. I hope you don't mind but I thought I would just see if I could make her eyes pop a little more. I worked on the catchlights also to try and even them out some what also. Some like it and some don't. I personally think they look good both ways.. No right or wrong here but I thought I would show anyways.. Again nice work.. And the comment about the woman and the couch is funny..

Adorable little girl :) Heather's edit is great. But both are nice. Here is another option for you as well. I went just a slightly different way then Heather. But like I said your original is great as is.

Thanks for the comments. Kajawhit, I like the tiny bit of color to the cheeks..

Mjvincent, I used a photoshop brush for make the original catch light a tad bigger. I then cloned a small portion of the right eye into the left eye to give it that "even" look on both eyes. Sometimes this works and sometimes it doesn't and gives the person a "odd" look in the eyes but it really worked in this one..

this little girl is an angel!
about your BW conversion...a question of taste... but how about going down on the red channel just slightly and top up blue maybe?...I know people love this "féerique" look on kids photos but not all of us do...

The couch-butt started to bother only after you mentioned it. Now you have blur/stamp/heal it away, no big deal.

Nobody's mentioned the way you composed and cropped the shot which is a bit weird because that's what really makes it stand ...en plus, it is something you cannot photoshop afterwards.

I have to go and see what else you've got!
