Is necessary to buy a Canon's brand grip?
Are there other brand that can instead Canon brand?
Costly and efficiently
Thanks

I was playing with an XTi and XSi in the store, and felt so weird with no grip on them. Ever since I put one on my XTi I've loved it and never taken it off...

Don't skimp, buy a Canon grip. You can get them used for like $120. I got mine off the forum.

I had a Targus grip for about a year and it worked perfectly. Cost half the Canon model.

Ain't nothin but a thing.

Canon grip should be better, I like the XT with the grip but I also like the small camera without it sometimes too.

3rd party grips may be successful too, if you plan on using it constantly, I can recommend the Canon one, two years of service so far. :)

I guess that's a good point. If you plan on leaving it on permanently like I have, you should probably go with Canon. On the other hand if you are just going to use it for those times you do alot of vertical shooting and/or need more battery life, a cheap one might be fine.

I'm planning on getting the Opetka grip for my XT when I come into a little more money. According to Opteka, their grip is made from the same mold and in the same factory as the official Canon BG-E3 grip. Heres a link to it on Amazon with two 900mAh batteries (don't know the brand sorry!)

I have the opteka on my XT and have had zero problems with it. I only take it off when I mount the camera onto a telescope to reduce weight.

I've had an opteka grip for 2 years before it started developing problems. One problem was with the battery door unlocking mechanism, it broke in half, but still works ( I put rubber bands around it so it doesn't accidentally get knocked completely off).

This past weekend the camera started not wanting to take pictures and would display Busy, but I haven't ruled it directly to the grip, it may be a camera problem.

I'm using the Opteka battery grip. No problems thus far. Good buy and adds a nice bit of mass and balance to the otherwise small-ish Rebel XT

Another positive shout for the Opteka grip. I've had it for over a year now and no problems. (Hope I haven't just jinxed myself :-))

Cheers,
LeBaron

I just got a canon one, used for 60 euros, no taking it off for me now, it's staying there :D

Practice finding the eye piece when you go vertical, specially if your taking quick shots, got caught once or twice on my first outing trying to look through the body :o
