Thanks Curtis, I think I'll just play it safe and grab some sunpak or sigmas, the hotshoe adapter and the skyport universal set.

My understanding is that the Vivitar 285HV can be triggered with a hotshoe adapter connected to a PC cord, optical slave or PocketWizard, but for some reason this doesn't work with the Skyport system.

I'm unclear on the details, but the adapter cord I linked to above is designed to overcome whatever electronic incompatibility is involved.

Maybe Lon can provide more detailed information. I'm merely repeating what I have read from credible sources, and I've been wrong before.

Considering that the 580EX II can behave similarly with the SkyPort, you may be on the money with the 285HV also. :)

Gave in to the skyport + hotshot adapter.. (no clue if I can still get TTL out of it or a higher shutter then 1/250)

No TTL
No E-TTL
No high speed sync
No second curtain sync

You can use any shutter speed you want. But if you go past 1/250, you won't get exposure of the entire frame. More here:

That's exactly the results I got when I tried it out (your thread), thanks Curtis!
