I have to share a story.
Last September, after about 2 years of a Rebel XT, I upgraded to a 30D at my local camera store. I had researched the pricing, and knew that I was paying about $100 more, but I liked the idea of having someone close by in my pocket to help if I ever needed it.
For once in my life, good call.
My first problem was the 18 - 250 Tamron Lens I purchased. At 6 weeks, it developed a MASSIVE case of lens creep. I took it back, and they exchanged it. I asked if I could take credit against a piece of L glass, and they said sure. Wound up with the 24 - 105 L.
Two months later, I have saved up the cash for the 70 - 200mm 2.8 L. Went in, and they matched the b&h price, plus $50. Paid more, but I am making friends, right?
The 70-200 was never right. I fought with it and fought with it, but it sucked on my 30D (sharpness) and on my 40D as well. So I called Canon. Since its 3 months old, it needs service. I take it to the store, and they offer to send it in for free, saving me $25. Cool.
Then one of my instructors at school is fiddling with my 40D, and says "man, your images are soft." We grab another 40D in class, and sure enough -- at 100% they are much softer.
I bought the 40D on the April 2nd. Took it in yesterday to the store. They looked at my images, and offered to EXCHANGE the camera.
In two hours I will have a new 40D.
Bottom line -- local works for me!
Just had to share.
