Canon 5D cable release problem

I am having an issue with my 5D that I have not had in the past. When using a cable release, either the Canon model or using a Pcket Wizard II with the correct cable, I can shoot successfully for a period of time and then the camera seems to go into a shutter release pressed mode and will not go out until I unplug the cable. Sometimes unplugging the cable will not work and when reinserting it, the shutter fires without the button pressed. Has anyone experienced this and can point me in the right direction? Thanks...

Glenn

I haven't experienced the problem, but it sounds like an electrical circuit malfunction in the camera remote socket.

The Canon cable release button is RS-80N3. The remote switch for the old film EOS cameras won't work (at least the one for my EOS-1).

I've not had the problems with my remote switch you described, and I've used mine alot. This remote has a lock button (running lock). As you push the grey button you can accidently slide the button assembly forward and lock the button in the "pressed" mode. Is the shutter on the camera staying open or are you unable to take the next photo because the camera thinks the shutter is already pressed? If it's the latter, the running lock may be engaging.
