I need to take some pictures of my sister and her friend and their dates for prom.
I will be taking them in a room with a wall that is pretty much all windows, I am shooting with an s3IS with flash on max and a styrofoam bowl with a hole cut in it to diffuse the flash, it diffuses the flash pretty well, minimal to no redeye and minimal shadows on the wall..
However I am wondering if there is a way to get better lighting without using flashes other than onboard (all I have).. I have a 250watt (I think its that much) halogen work light, along with two small halogen lamps. The ceiling is slightly angled with the pitch of our roof and about 1.5 stories above the ground, bouncing off the ceiling didn't work to great.
I will be taking head to foot shots so the worklight cant sit directly behind them, it has to be off the side which seems to create uneven lighting, any ideas, besides maybe hanging a sheet and blasting it with the light? would that work at all?
Also what is the best way to remove jpeg noise, it is kind of noisy despite the fact I am using 100iso, I have photoshop elements and gimp, and I don't really want to pay for noise ninja.
Would the CHDK firmware shooting in RAW make a huge difference?, If so I might take a run to office depot for a card reader.
