Hi All,

First time posting pics. Here's few shots of "framing" my son between the batter and catcher. What do you think? Do you think the "frame" is too distracting. The exposure was not as good as I like since my son was in the shade in the evening. Thanks for looking.

I love it. It's a perspective you don't often see. Great job. I'm going to try this next weekend with my son.

It is distracting to me also, having to look past so much blur to see the real photo. That being said, when taking photos for yourself, it is important what you think not what I think.
Getting the exposure correct will greatly improve the images. Try shooting manual and exposing for the pitcher. The camera in AV mode and pattern metering mode will have a hard time exposing him correctly with all the stuff in the forground and background. Remember, he is only a very small portion of that image, Spot metering would help, but exposing it manually is really the way to go. If that does not work, you could have them reposition the field 110 degrees to the right.........;)

Thanks for the tip on the spot metering -- duh, should have thought of that. I taken lots of shots to the left, right, side, but for this one I happen to see an "opening" with a left handed batter (right handed batters don't tend to have this "opening"). Anyways, this was my attempt at "being there". I wasn't completely happy with the shot, but I wanted to see people's impression of it. I guess this is a shot that only a Dad would love.

I think if you had just the batter and not the catcher and not the guy on 2nd base or outfielders in the frame, it would be perfect. I really like this concept but I do agree there's just too much in these photos taking away from the subject. I am definitely going to give this a try. Thanks for the great idea!!

While I'm all for something different, I'm having trouble seeing the point of these images and all the people in them. Are you trying to give context to the pitcher by including the batter, the runner, the center fielder and even the catcher or umpire? IMO, thats WAY too many people in one image, and in reality only one actually DOING anything (the pitcher). The CF is just standing there; the runner is just standing there; the catcher is just squatting there; the hitter is just standing there; etc…

I like #2. It's a different kind of shot.

If you are going to have the batter in the shot I'd want a little more batter. Get behind him and sneak the pitcher in. All or nothing!

I'd love it if not for the runner on second. Good angle.

I like #2, but it would be better without the runner.
