Jurgen, you have posted numerous image here and they have all been quite good, but this one goes beyond the rest. The things you do for yourself die with you, the things you do for others live forever.

To put it simply, I really like this photograph. Well thank you chauncey..I've never thought "Temple Child" to be amoung my best..I can see some glaring technical issues but not forgetting this is NOT a posed shot but a grab shot..I only managed one frame on her.. I would immediately think about shadow/highlight in CS2. But even a tiny bit more light on the right might break the spell... Good shooting. Good point tmcman,,,,,this image was shot in a dark Buddhist temple lit by a window..She is holding floral tributes for the Buddha which she sells for a few cents each..Once the tributes are place by the Buddha she would retrieve them and resell them..This little cash would suppliment her family's income.. I would agree that any change needs to be done very carefully - it might be as little as subtle lightening of the whites of her left eye - but does probably need to increase brightness more generally than that. Otherwise, it's a very compelling shot. I can't imagine what she's thinking... fascinating, and a little chilling. Regards, Tony 5D and too much glass. Mamiya 645E.

Why? The overexposure doesn't affect the intensity of the instinct evoked to empathise with and seek to understand the subject, or frustrate the effort. The lighting across her face is better - no longer frustrating that effort Her expression seems such a complex mix of conflicting instincts it's really remarkable... with what could be a hint of a sneer, a slightly calculating or resentful look, an innocence, a worldliness, a plea, I'm asking myself if there's any childish playfulness or exuberence but I just can't say. Remarkable. 5D and too much glass. Mamiya 645E.

Tony,,,are you reading more into this image than there really is??I have always believed image impact often has more relevance than technical perfection..Suppose this comes from my newspaper background.. No, it's not perfect, but I still like it. Don't know why. The things you do for yourself die with you, the things you do for others live forever.
