Hurrah!!!!

I've finally joined the club and splashed out on a 40D with a 17-85 lens with it...

Are there any hidden pearls of wisdom I need to know about this??

I don't hate macs or OSX, I hate people and statements that portray them as better than anything else. Macs are A solution, not THE solution. Get a good desktop i7 with Windows 7 and come tell me that sucks for photo or video editing.

The camera sucks if there is a loose nut behind the viewfinder.

One useful thing - if you press the info button twice when in any shooting mode, you get full current setting details displayed on the monitor. It's a lot easier than reading from the top LCD display under certain conditions.

If you press the info button, ISO button, the picture style button AND the shutter button simultaneously, it will do a triple black flip and make a funny noise

:D Just kidding - enjoy the camera - its a great buy !

you can change this in the menu settings so that you only push it once for all the info to pop up

Don't have the ISO noise reduction on if you are shooting in burst mode. it reduces the buffer's capacity from 75 jpegs down to about six. Turn it on only if you are taking single shots in dim light. And don't be afraid to up the ISO, because the quality is much better than you think. I was scared to death of high ISOs after using a 350D, but after trying it on my 40D I realised it was just a monster under my bed: mostly my imagination, and not something to be really afraid of.

Also, once you've used it for a bit, put the most common things you use onto the "My menu" tab. Leave the set button to activate live view in shooting mode. i've used it a fair bit.
