For those of you who own this item:

This item, as far as I know, is designed to be used when bouncing off a ceiling is not available and for straight shooting with the flash set vertically. How do you get the correct exposure with this thing when a light meter is not available? Do you just chimp? This device seems to be effective only within a certain distance from the flash to the subject(s). How do you measure the proper light output to the distance? Wouldn't the subject be blown if there's a slightest miscalculation between the light output and the distance of the subject?

Small difusser like that is designed for on camera flash with ETTL, so chimp and histogram would be my way for metering.

BTW, if you need one for the 580, the Pocket Bouncer is right size one.
