Took these this weekend while I was in St. Joseph. Cloudy all day, but it cleared up a little just in time for the sunset. Let me know what you think!

The first one is interesting. The sight lines lead you up the shoreline then out into the lake in a kind of sweeping motion. Not bad.

I find #1 quite interesting with good composition and exposure. The colors are particularly good - warm colors as one finds just before the upper limb of the sun goes down.

#1 is good, #2 is recycleable. The footprints almost could make #2 into a cool shot, but the framing in the end just defeats them.

Is it just the sizing or is the background soft in #1? If so, try stopping down more for this shot in the future.

I love Lake Michigan BTW. People who have not been to the great lakes have no idea.

Thanks for the feedback!

I was stopped down as much as I could go on my 17-40 (f/22) to get that misty look to the water. I guess diffraction got the better of me, a hint to buy a neutral density filter I suppose.

And yes, Lake Michigan is the greatest of the great lakes :P

No 1 has a good sense of scale, i think you are definately right about the ND filter.
Just missing the misty look makes the images look soft.
Thing i can't get to grips with is the size of that Errr (Lake you say) Sat all the way through a documentary on TV with my mouth open, about the shipping lines running proper ships on it all day and how they go down in huge storms... On a lake?
I have a question please excuse the departure, Is the water salty? i know that may seem like a stupid question, land locked lake and all that. But i thought due to its scale there may be a lot of minerals dissolved into it making it salty.?

I get water from Lake Michigan in my faucet. It's every bit as good to drink as bottled water
