Unrecognized format with 70-200 f/2.8

Several times when I've uploaded images from the CF card to my pc I've gotten the message that (of course I don't remember it word for word now
"Image IMGXXX.CR2 is not in a format compatible with the program (PE6) and then offers a bullet list of formats in which to open the file and RAW is not one of them. At any rate, I made a choice and the files opened but I am not sure what is happening here. It's not all the shots I take with the 70-200 and never happens with any other lens. Has anyone else ever had this happen? Thanks in advance for any thoughts/suggestions!

What camera are you using? Have you upgraded firmware recently? Does it work with JPEG? Does the same happen with other CF cards?

30D, no firmware update, haven't tried in JPEG, I shoot in RAW, seems to be related to use of onboard flash. I'll check into the firmware upgrade though! Thanks much!
