I've recently got the Sigma 24-70mm and I noticed a problem with the lens. To me it seems there's a cloud like smoke in the lens. I've compared it with my 50mm and it looks more sharper than the sigma. Do you guys think this is normal or if it's a problem I should send it to sigma. Also, can you give me a more specific way of tell Sigma the problem.

Thanks

Here's some pictures of it. The first two pictures were at 50mm, 1/15,f/4

Next set Canon at 50, Simga at 52 , 1/20, f/2.8

Is this with or without the hood. It is prone to light spill and flare without the hood pretty easily.

Hmm thats interesting, have you tried some tests outside with more sun to see how it copes. I can see the lack of saturation on the can pic.

Ive never really had this problem with mine so only other suggestion would be a not so great copy? Suppose best to wait for others to chime in.

Here's two more pictures I took last night. One was with my kit lens and the other with the Sigma 24-70. Both were taken at 24mm, 1/30, f/4

Have you checked that the front and rear lens elements are clean?

Got a filter on that 24-70?
If so, take it off and try again.

I've done that with the first two pictures I've taken. And I still have that problem.

Do you guys think it's the lens? Is it a good idea to send it to sigma?

Wow that doesn't look good. Give it a good, through cleaning on both sides, and if the problem is still there, send it back.

I'm out of ideas. If it isn't a grubby element surface, or a nasty filter, I'm thinking it has to be an internal problem - gross fungal growth, an element out of alignment after a drop, or a flaw in construction. Send it off to Sigma with a CDROM of example images, or just include a note with the URL of this thread. I'd call it "overall contrast loss and poor resolution akin to veiling flare", but "I've got a cloud in my lens!" should work too.
