Trip to Dominican Rep - advice/tips/sights to see welcome

Hi all,


My wife and I finally picked our trip outside the US. We're headed to the Puerto Plata in the Dominican Republic, which looks beautiful.

I'm not worried about what gear to bring - pretty much just bringing a 40D/18-200OS/10-22, memory & 40GB photobank, batts, chargers, polarizers, etc.

But, as a newer traveler, are there any obvious tips or tricks, especially as they apply to the Dominican Rep? How about sights to see, both in Puerto Plata and Santo Domingo, etc? My biggest worry is how expensive and what form of transportation to use on the island to go between large cities. Any advice on pretty much anything is appreciated.

I'm sorry I didn't see this post earlier (aka when you needed the advise), but I'm from the DR and I hope you had a great trip
