I am looking at getting an ultra wide lens (for my 400d) but can not decide which one to purchase. I have read lot of info on various different makes and I like the output from them all.

The ones I am considering are :-

Canon 10-22
Sigma 10-20
Tokina 10-17
Tokina 11-16

I am kinda of set on either the Canon or the Tokina 11-16. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Best regards

Michael

I recently purchased the Canon 10-22 and have nothing bad to say about. It is well built and has excellent IQ.

Second vote for the Canon 10-22. Very nice lens. I did try the Siggy 10-20 but prefered the Canon. I haven't tried the others.

Im in the same boat as you. I can tell you that I have it limited to the canon or the takina 11-16. In all honesty I think im going to spend the extra $$ and go with the Canon. Im just waiting to see if the spring rebates will include the 10-22. Good luck with the decision its a tough one. :D

Well, the Tokina 10-17 is a fisheye, not a UWA. (BTW, it is an EXCELLENT fisheye, and I love mine). The Tokina 11-16 f/2.8 is currently the best UWA for crop bodies. Recent tests have shown it to kick the Canon 10-22 all over the place.

I also love my Tokina 12-24.

my vote is for the tokina 11-16, the shorter ranges contributes to a slightly improved image and that constant fast aperture is a huge plus that gives the lens a greater range of applications.

I was all set on the Canon but then had to read about the Tokina and my head is all screwed up now. There isn't much of a cost difference between the 2 and the images I have seen from both loko very good. I wish this was easy!!!! Arrrghhhh!!!

I bought the Tokina and it is sharp and focuses fast! Great lens. That said, I'd like to see the 10-17 as I'd like to try out the fisheye. Part of the reason I'm selling my 180 macro is to finance the fisheye.

I vote Sigma 10-20mm! Had it when I was with Pentax, bought it again for Canon. :)

Tokina 10-17mm is fisheye, TAMRON 11-16mm is a (fast!) rectilinear.

The EF-S 10-22mm is very highly regarded. Not much out there yet on the 11-16mm as it's still pretty new but the samples are trickling in.

I think the 10-17mm is the only APS-C fisheye zoom out there. Pentax has their version of the 10-17mm (same optical design I believe) and alot of folks in Pentax-land love it!

Pretty much all the UWA (and the 10-17mm) are excellent.

I'd go for either the 10-22 or 11-16. The 11-16 has received great reviews, and is already sold out in both Canon & Nikon mounts at BH. That should say something in itself.

The only reason I would get the 10-22 over the 11-16 is if you need that extra 1mm, which does actually make quite the difference given the right situation.
