Thank you everybody You point any lens into a light source you'll get flare yes this lens is prone to more then most lens but most of the time you can use that to ad sme pop to the picture or at least I do.. Or just clone ot out It's a awesome lens and the fixed 2.8 is why I bought it since I do low light stuff...and that alone is worth the ocassional issue with flare ...At 16mm it has minor distortion which is pretty easily fixed in lr4 -Bart

How big is a problem? does the version II of this lens fixes the issue? Yes, it is. Big enough so that I don't use it in daylight. Version 2, apparently, still has the same problems. How big is a problem? does the version II of this lens fixes the issue? I have a canon 60D! It is prone to flare, but I never had much of a problem with it. You just have to be mindful of it when shooting on sunny days. After a while using this lens you learn to position yourself in relation to the sun to minimize the chance of flare. - Patrick

I don't think it even requires a whole ounce. It's one of the first things that beginners learn - 'You must have the sun behind you for a good picture'. It's also one of the first things that people with a whole ounce of skill learn to ignore. Frank Hollis - Retired mass spectroscopist
