Searched and couldn't find anything...

I'm trying to find an adapter that will go on my Canon Rebel XT flash mount so that it can accept the sync cord from the 3 light studio kit I just purchased. I was recommended a wireless product (see link below)... Any suggestions?

Thanks in advanced!

wireless is good because of no wires to trip over, but I don't personally like the triggers like the cactus style sold on ebay. I would buy the elinchrom universal skyports if I had the money.

Try one of these:

or one of these:

Should I be picky about name brands? The first one looks more home-made and the second one is Nikon, but I see it works for my XT... So, cheap or expensive?

No worries about the name brands.

The first one has a test button, which can come in handy.

The one with the Nikon label has a screwlock PC socket, similar to the PC sockets built into camera bodies. It's a much more secure connection, but you need a cable with a screwlock plug to take advantage of the superior design (Flashzebra sells the cables, too). It will still work with a standard PC plug, but you won't get the more reliable connection.

Take yer pick.

Thanks, I appreciate the help.

I've noticed there are extension cords which I'll probably be getting since I will be using this strobe kit as an automotive photoshoot setup. The exntensions do have the screwlock PC connection, right?

For example, this does not have the screwlock PC connection: http://www.bhphotovideo.com …NP6973_PC_Male_to_PC.html (external link)

Correct. That cord is a standard male-female PC cord.

Here is the FlashZebra page with the screwlock cords:

Unfortunately, I don't see one with a female PC connector on the other end.

Okay. I will probably just end up getting the Nikon one. Will the Nikon adapter accept other standard PC connections without screwlock?

Yes. It will work fine.

Just my $.02 worth but I've been using the 4 channel version of the "Cactus Triggers" like you originally asked about for a few weeks now on my own Rebel XT and I just love them. I only have 2 receivers as this point so I use one receiver on my generic monolight, one on my Metz hotshoe flash and I trigger my third hot shoe flash with an optical sensor...works like a charm for those on a budget.

So far the only issue I've seen in regards to "brand" isn't about Canon cameras, XT or otherwise, but some of the Cactus Triggers don't work with the Canon 580EX flashes or 580 "clones" (such as the ProMaster 7500DX). Supposedly the "Cactus V2's" are supposed to fix that, but I don't know if it's true or not. Also you won't have ETTL with any of the wireless systems (that I know of at least), but you won't have that with a standard sync chord either. Also I've heard a few people gripe about mis-fires with these units but so far I've had no problems with that at all.

I do agree that whether you choose low end or high end, wireless is the way to go. As a musician who's spent over 20 years tripping over chords and cables (and watching others do the same), I wasn't even going to mess around with that with my photo gear. I've seen too many microphones and even a few amps knocked over because of someone's foot getting hung up on a cable (and ton's of cables totally destroyed for the same reason)...not going to do that with my camera gear!

Honestly, for what I payed for my Cactus triggers, I couldn't be happier with them. Very good value for the money in my book.

Peace,
Jim

I got the http://flashzebra.com/hotshoes-shoes/0064.shtml (external link) model and it's the one I've been using on 20d and, previously, XT. I haven't had any issues with contacts on that unit; when the pc sync doesn't connect properly, it's almost always the hot shoe flash side.

Thanks, that's the one I just ordered.. What do you mean it doesn't connect properly? Is it a operator issue rather than a product issue?
