I've got a rough idea but could someone tell me exactly what type of fly this is and it's latin name if known as I want to make sure I get it right. I'm guessing it's a green bottle fly or blow fly and the latin name lucilia cuprina?
Just taken in my garden yesterday with a sigma 105mm. My first insect photo thats come out sharp as I always seem to find insects when they've woken up.

Thank you. i thought it was but I didn't want to use this at my camera club to find out I was wrong. I'm quite pleased as I've never actually managed to get a good insect photo that didn't have nearly none existent DOF.

Unlikely to be Lucilla caesar as this is comparatively rare according to the experts on diptera.info - there are a score of similar looking flies and only an expert will be able to give you an ID if indeed it is possible from a photo. The last 'Greenbottle' I asked about turned out not to even be a Blow Fly.

It doesn't have to be perfect it's only for in club competitions at my camera club. It's just some people like to know the latin name from some reason but I'm sure they don't know it themselves.
