AEB - Does it really require 3 Presses of Shutter?

So I've been playing with the AEB option on my 30D .. It appears that after I set it to +/- 1 stop, it requires me to actually push the shutter release 3 times to bracket the exposure. the Manual doesn't say anything about it, other than how to set it in the options.

Am I seeing this correctly? or do I have an improper setting? (e.g., AI Servo or something "continuous")

AFAIK, that's what's required. You must make three exposures.

Maybe you're not reading all the 2 pages of the manual -- look at the note with bullets at the bottom of page 95 and it should explain how the various drive modes apply to AEB.
