The Canon 350D (XT, I believe in US) is already discontinued from the actual Canon catalogs, at least here in Europe ... it´s now in the Museum Web Page ....

Just found a add for the 1000D on a Korean website. It is supposed to be announced June 10th. Its still not up on the Canon site but from what I can see on the Korean site it looks like the specs will have Digic III, 1600 ISO, 3.5 fps, 10 mp CMOS sensor (not so sure about that my Korean is pretty weak). For a price of 500,000 Korean won (about $500 American).

Very Cool!
I wonder if this is an XTi w/Digic III & Live View? It will be interesting to see if this uses the same sensor as the XTi or if some modifications/enhancements have been made.

BTW, Isn't it kinda funny that Canon now has 4 10MP cameras that range from $500 to $4000! Kinda strange to say the least!

What is the difference between a "Cross-type F2.8 at center" and "Cross-type F5.6 at center" for the Autofocus?

It's the max aperture of the lens for the cross type sensor to function as cross type.

The 2.8 version vill only give the cross type precision with lenses with a max aperture of 2.8 or larger. The 5.6 version will do this with lenses with a max aperture of 5.6 or better.

Thus the 5.6 version is the better one.

Well, I was mostly right *grins*. Got the mp wrong, but ISO right, shutter speed and flash sync right, got the LCD screen right, and was only a fraction off with the AF points (5 vs 7). Better viewfinder coverage than I expected as well, although not by much. Happily, the buffer is way better than I was expecting from Canon, as well as the fps! I was right on no sRAW ;)

Go me!

Dave

To be honest, it'll almost be a model to combat the D40/D60 which are both undercutting the 450D, Canon's cheapest camera.

They'll probably keep it at 8mp, ISO 1600 will be the top ISO speed, probably only to 1/4000 and flash sync at 1/200, no live view, 5 point AF, 92% viewfinder coverage, probably no real motor drive, maybe 1 fps, maybe 2fps at tops, very average memory buffer, very small and very light in terms of physical size and weight. Noise performance will be average at higher ISOs, AF won't be super accurate or fast, but will be good enough for the vast majority of people (i.e. those not shooting sports/fast action). It'll be a 1.6 crop (obviously), no mirror lockup. 2.5" LCD screen, quite possibly a 2" screen to keep costs down. I doubt that you'll get much in the way of custom functions. You'll get RAW, probably large, medium and small jpeg sizes, but I doubt sRAW will be offered.

Anyways, that's what I reckon it'll be ;-)a

The original rebel (film) circa mid 90s, only had a top speed of 1/2000 second and flash sync of 1/125 from memory, no real motor drive, none or few custom functions from memory.

Dave
