SD1100 zoom problem-help!

Can anyone tell me what I am doing wrong with my new camera. When I zoom to take a picture in bright lighting conditions, my picture comes out dark. I am not zooming in very much-I am confused. Any help would be appreciated. Also I am in auto mode and have camera set a 5 megapixels.

I have an SD1100. This is definitely not a problem with my camera.

I really am very pleased with my new camera and can not fault it at all. As the moderator suggested could you post a photo including all the exif data.
