That's all very fine, but did you know that "droger" means "drugs" in Swedish?
And "fart" again is the word for speed. There used to be a transport company called "Nordisk Fart". Once they went international, there was a name change.

As a non-native English speaker I often wonder how badly you treat your beautiful, flexible and expressive language. Maybe it is exactly this mutilation that has made it such?

BTW: Where might be situated the largest english-speaking population in the world?

And encore un PS: "The Other Camera Company" will be Sony in no time....

Well, it sort of does in my house as well. At least that what happens when I do. Everyone runs from the room pretty fast.

Not sure why, but call me JJ.

I agree, but that is not proper American English usage, and I am an American who writes for a living.

Periods (full stops) and commas go inside the quotes, colons and semicolons go outside the quotes, and question marks and exclamation points go inside the quotes if a part of the quoted material and outside the quotes if not.

There is only one case in American English where periods or commas go outside the quotes, and that is when what is quoted is to be taken as specific characters, not as a word.

Also, in American English, we use double quotes as the basic quote form, with single quotes as internal quotes, alternating accordingly. I believe you Brits do the reverse in formal writing.

Of course, the majority of the posters in these forums don't use and wouldn't recognize proper English, be it American, British, or other dialect. The whole thing is therefore rather moot.

I'm just grateful when they make some attempt to use English at all. When they don't, I simply ignore them, even if I understand what they are asking and know the answer to their questions.

I don't do texting.

What up wit dis 20D? you goin make us all seem like da foo cause we dont got any fancy education? sorry but some of us dont have a chance ta go to dat, fancy - shmancy educatin school wen we was young.

As long as they keep their whinging to this thread and don't make rude comments elsewhere about people using the terms they're so upset about, or start naming names, let 'em gripe.

oh yes.. and the worst: magic drainpipe

in fact, saying any piece of equipment has any "magic" at all should be a bannable offense. Justifying an expensive piece of kit that you don't necessarily need because it has "magic" that you can't get from a lesser alternative is... quite lame.

In a land where we are overrun with Fairies, what's wrong with a little mythology to keep things interesting.
We can talk gear and specs all day long and bore each other to tears, but damn it some things are just beyond measurbation.. (what about that term? or Pixel peeping? )
Let life have some mystery,. for Odin's sake, the 200mm f/1.8 IS magic, when I reach for it, I feel just like I'm Thor reaching for Mjolner,.. it's not the biggest weapon on the battle field, but it has Magic powers that puts it ahead of an entire phalanx of 70-200mm zooms.

As for the "Holy Trinity" more mythology, and frankly there should be NO question what lenses this refers to. (35mm, 85mm 135mm L primes )
The term was coined here on POTN and if in it's migration elsewhere to less sensible forums people have lost touch with who the real Gods are, they can turn to our own EF Lens FAQ for guidance and a reminder,. this "bible" contains documentation including the very thread where the term was coined.

I'm not a religious man by any stretch, but I am a spiritual one, and damn it as scientific as my left brain is, when I was in Africa a saw more than just flora and fauna, more than families, species and order,. no, it was more than that, I saw GOD.

So pack up your rulers and focus charts, trash your MTF charts and look at the images instead and if you can;t feel any magic there,. well that's a real shame. I do and that's what keeps me coming back.

Noink or any variation on the spelling. It's nikon people, it's just a brand like every thing else out there. gee using the correct name isn't going to make it a better camera.

The other bug, which I must say doesn't happen here is use the use of txt words. it seems that most people can use the full word. :)

that gets my goat no end.

\

NOINK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Any resistance on this and we will resort to the forums own profane language filter!

It's a CANON forum people!
Noink is the enemy,. it's Evil pure and simple!

How about that! Good thing it's not my name, nor my appellation, which is "20droger."

And a good Swedish vacuum-cleaner company once had an ad that said, "Buy Electrolux! It really sucks!" Just goes to show you. What it shows you, I dunno.

Not all of us mangle the language. Some of us love it.

That might be in India.

Not to me. Too many gimmicks, not enough professionalism.

The fist stupid post to die out in my honest and deep-felt opinion should be the French Post who have been delaying my gratifications so many times sometimes making things "disappear" (a 20D,various software bundles) and other times delaying the delivery demanding "factures réelles" after I've sent them the copies of PayPal receits and my credit card reviews...

So, in my opinion the first Stupid Post to go is La Poste Francaise!
There have been rumors that the Deutsche Post (the guys who got DHL) would buy them and put half of the 120 000 clercks out on the streets...

I feel sorry for the eBay stores who send out their stuff once the payment has been cleared and then the bureaucracy steps in to protect the local sellers who are but no-good lazy francophone-only jerks!

Felt good to say so: JERKS!

20droger=tjugo droger...fiutt i röran o darr i påsan!

No, I am not a native french speaker, either....

I'm glad I'm a cannon tog I once considered buying noink body and glass Man, I'd be PWN3D! Since the first time I put my hands on a cannon camera and cannon lense I've been a very happy photog This is an expensive hobby though Maybe some start cheap with glass like the nifty fifty or basic tammy But once you pull the trigger on bigger stuff like the magic drainpipe or bigma it gets expensive Who cares though when you see that magic brown truck pulling over it's all good And should I mention the quality aparature and whibal of all cannon gear and lenses? Not really all togs know it PWN3S other brands like noink.
ok thanks bye
