 I do not know alot of terminology when it comes to camera lingo, I bought recently both a Canon Rebel XT, i do not like the built in flash so i found a sunpak 522 on craigslist at a reasonable price, i looked up the specs and found that this was just the thing i was looking for at a reasonable price. so i contacted the person selling it and talked to him for a few minutes about the flash and i admit he asked me if i had a PC port on my camera, being a computer person not a camera person i said sure there is a connection on my camera to connect it to the PC. which there is a USB connection on the camera to connect it to the computer. I had my wife pick up the strobe on her way home from work because the person lives by my wifes job. I got home and found that the PC connection had nothing to do with the USB port on the camera. so my question is..... Is there an adapter that will connect the Sunpak 522 to my Rebel XT using the flash connection on top of the camera? or any other type of connector? and if not does anyone want to trade me a decent flash that will work with it for the sunpak???:o

If the trigger voltage is too high for the Rebel XT then you can use something like this:

http://www.bhphotovideo.com …afe_Sync_Hot_Shoe_to.html (external link)

If it is a safe voltage then you can use this instead: http://www.bhphotovideo.com …1_Hot_Shoe_Adapter_1.html (external link)

Both the adapters in the links I provided have the PC sync port you need to attach the flash to the Rebel XT. You need one or the other since as you figured out, the Rebel XT doesn't have a PC sync port.

Attach the adapter to the camera's hot shoe and then plug the PC sync cord from the flash into the adapter.

The Rebel XT is supposed to be good up to 250V - but that is "unofficial" (see here (external link)). If the trigger voltage on the Sunpak 522 is greater than this then use the Wein Safe Sync to prevent damage to your camera; otherwise you can use the cheaper one.

For the trigger voltage you can measure it yourself if you have the equipment or check here (external link). For the 522 the results seemed a little inconsistent but seemed to be below 200.
