Hi So im new to the photography scene as well as this forum. But i was looking for a little help with my auxilary flash. I have the Canon 430EX Speedlite. I know i should probably read the manual for full use of this great piece of equipment but im also a hands on learner and i was wondering if anyone can break down the basic function of the buttons and how i can apply them. All help is greatly appreciated!

You're absolutely right! ;) And I will add that if there's anything specific about the manual that confuses you, feel free to ask here and you will surely get the help you need.

Honestly, learning about the user interface of the flash unit is the easy part. What's more important is to understand some critical concepts that will help you tremendously as you climb the learning curve. Start with Flash Photography 101 (link in my sig). The other links are good to read, too.

You'll find that operating your flash unit is relatively simple, once you figure out what you want it to do. Since I don't own a 430EX, I'll refrain from more detail, lest I screw something up.

Don't hesitate to ask questions, just understand that the more specific your question is, the better answer you'll get.

Good luck!

I agree with Curtis...check the manual out, then pop that baby on and go experiement! What types of photography are you wanting to use it for?
