Hi all,

I just bought G5 and have taken already some photos. Now it's time to transfer those from camera to PC but unfortunately I have somekind of problem. I really hope you could help me.
Problem is that after installing all necessary software (I use Windows XP SP2 installed) I restart computer and attach camera with PC using USB. And there is the problem! Computers found new hardware but doesn't install it properly - I have connect and disconnect camera several times with no success.

I guess there is something wrong with USB connection

Does anyone have had similar problem and what should I have to do.

Thanks for advance and all the best,
Ando

Hi there
I recently got a G5 too and had similar problems. This is apparently quite a common problem.
I don't really understand it but it is something to do with USB drivers.
As the software is not too good anyway, IMHO, the easiest solution is simply to take the card out of the camera and use a card reader - you will probably end up doing this anyway even if you get your software to work as it is much faster.

Windows XP reads the G5 as a scanner/camera and then sets it up as a removable drive.

Go to My Computer and the G5 will be listed. Right click and select Get Photos.

Hope that helps.

If only it was so simple...

Thanks everyone who has replied - so far I haven't able to solve the problem

I have read from several places that if using XP I don't have to install any software from Software CD - is it correct?

Would you recommend any card reader to buy?

Have you read the read info regarding G5 and XP at the Canon site. It seems that if you have a problem with the standard Windows driver then you should download a specific Canon WIA driver.

Not sure if this helps but here is a link for European site

Ooops! I forgot to mention that in my reply. I had to install the WIA driver for my G5 and then everything worked perfectly.

I leave out the most important detail.... Duhhhh.

I've been using a Sandisk ImageMate 6 in 1 for years and it works great.
