430EX, 550EX and 580EX/II

Not too sure about the 220EX. Not 100% but the 300EZ will not work as an optical slave.

Sigma flashes work on the hot shoe but not definate as optical slaves.

Why not invest in some radio triggers and some Sunpak or Metz flashes?

I was thinking that. it would just be 1 less thing to carry you have to have a flash any way so why not just get one that does both .. I wish that the canon flashes were RF not IR

You have a pair of 580ex which is pretty decent enough. Not that much of a bulk to carry to be honest.

My portable setup consists of
- 580EX II
- 430EX
- 32" white umbrella which fits into the lightstand bag
- Umbrella/flash bracket

Just pick up a 430EX since its smaller and provides enough light to be honest.

Are you talking about true optical slave triggering or just Canon Wireless?

if you want el-cheapo, try to find a used 420ex . . . can get around $100-$130 used.

420EX, 430EX, 550EX, 580EX, 580EX II. Not sure about any other EX flashes. I believe I've read (but not experienced) that even 3rd party flashes that are ETTL compatible are not totally so in the Canon wireless system.

There is a lot more to the communication than just a fire signal.
