Why is my new SD1100 LCD monitor SUPER grainy, is this normal?

I just bought an Powershot Elph SD1100 yesterday. From the first time I turned it on I noticed how grainy the LCD screen/monitor is. It doesn't matter what type of light I'm in, setting I'm on or ISO it's set at it's ALWAYS grainy and never crystal clear. When I showed someone my new cam they commented on it as well. Is this normal or did I get a defective one? I should add that it isn't grainy when I take a picture and it shows it in "review" mode, so basically it's just the live shot that's messed up. The ENTIRE screen is grainy. I've searched google to see if I could figure something out but was unsuccessful. So I'm hoping someone here knows. Does this sound normal? I hope that I explained this well enough.

Thank you so much! I really appreciate it!

Amber :)

Well, mainly because it's trying to, in real time, on the fly, reduce 8 MP to fit onto a 230,000 pixel screen and still keep up with what's in front of the lens. So essentially it's throwing away about 97% of the pixels either by merging 25-30 pixels down to 1 or by just dumping them outright. In displaying the picture for review it's not trying to get something up there fast, and it's not trying to constantly update, so it can do a more polished job.
