Ok, my PRO1 will arrive in the next few days. I just bought the camera alone and my question is for the other PRO1 owners.....

What accessories should I look into getting?

The first thing I plan on getting is 2 spare (non-canon) batteries + quick charger and a car charger as well as the UV protective filter.

What other things should I get?

Ah... a fellow, former Kodak DC290 owner. That camera served me well for 4.5 years despite being more useful as a paperweight. :D

In any case, it depends on what type of photography you're planning to do. The 28-200mm lens is quite versatile as is. I wouldn't recommend getting the 1.5x converter (although I bought it) unless you plan to use it more often. It increases the size/weight significantly and when attached, your zoom range is limited to 200-300mm.

If you do plan to do macro photography, I would highly recommend getting the Canon adapter tube.

Here you'll also see the 250D and 500D which I've stacked. I've recently purchased a 2nd 250D to stack all 3 together. Below is a photo I took last night with the 3 lenses stacked.

Before you say, "Pff... what's so special about that?" The 800x600 spider image you see was originally 3264x2448 in resolution. And the size of the spider is... or "was" 1/2-in. ("Was" as in I squished it after I was done shooting it.) :)

And if you don't already have an external flash, I would recommend getting one. The built-in flash is quite powerful, but to get better indoor photos, you can't beat bouncing the flash off the ceiling, IMO.

Great! What would nature be if we photographers 'squished' everything after shooting our pics. Get a life!
Good luck with your Pro1 Ranger187

Hm... interesting comment. As I'm sure every time you find an insect in your home, you pick it up and move it over to your neighbor's instead? *rolls eyes*

FYI, bee was alive when I left it. Flower wilted on its own. If you're cool about spiders hatching hundreds of hatchlings in your home, more power to you. But unless you've NEVER killed an insect in your life, what makes you think you have the right to talk down to me? Holier-than-thou attitude my rear end. Pfff... what a hypocrit.

JW, can you give me price estimates on the pieces you recommended?

Thanks guys for the replies..

And I take both Macro and long distance pictures. Easiest way to explain me = Picture Whore. Hence the 16,000+ images in my gallery. And I have way over 35,000+ to still be added.

You might consider adding UV and Circular Polarizer filters. Also- I recommend buying a couple of additional filter adapters and keeping the filters permanently on them; they cost something like $7.50 each from Canon parts.

Why not just shoot for some time, and then you'd find out what you really need just by seeing what kind of pics you're taking...

But it seems like a pronounced equipment fetish... no offence to anyone, I have some syndromes of it too. :)

I agree w/ the Doc. I didn't start buying accessories until a few months after owning the pro1. First find out where the camera is failing you and then find the accessories to "enhance" the camera. Once you start buying adapters and lenses, you'll easily burn a sizeable hole in the wallet. :D

JWCDDS there isn’t any way you can determine if I'm a hypocrite or not, to this forum it is nevertheless completely inconsequential, my comments on your posting were an impromptu reaction to the inappropriateness of your comments and the need to include them on this photography group in the first place. As far as your photography goes - that can be admired.

Well, having shot over 45,000 pictures with the Kodak's I shoot everything, action, night, macro, scenery, offroading trips etc.... So I'll be getting a decent amount of lenses.

And then Next summer I'll be going SLR since none of the cameras I own have the bulb feature because I'm bigtime into night photography.

What "inappropriateness" was there to my comment? That I added a smilie after stating I squished an insect, or the fact that I said I killed an insect? I am sure everyone in the world have killed insects at least a few hundred times in their lifetime. Or are your hands clean? Unless you've never killed an insect, what makes you think you're any better than me to tell me to "Get a life?" All of a sudden we're getting PC about bugs?

Your "impromptu reaction" is nothing short of rude and offensive. Care to explain/elaborate on the motives of your statement if not solely to attack me? Because you didn't even attempt to answer the OP's question regarding Pro1 accessories, therefore, also making your original comment to me needless in this photography group in the first place. What do I have to determine you're a hypocrite? That very fact you're trying to lecture me when you've gone and did exactly the same thing shows to me you are.

BTW, what forum rule(s) did I violate in regards to posting the death of an insect to make my comment inappropriate to begin with?

... in any case ...

Back on topic, in USD ($), the 1.5 TCON is ~$150-$200, each macro filter (250D/500D) ~$80-$100, the Canon adapter tube ~$60, the 420EX flash ~$180-$240. That's the going rate that I see online.

I bought the Hoya CP. Works well. Here are two recent photos (from my vacation in Maui)

without CP, 1/250s, f/4.0, iso50

I forget the street price on it but it was quite affordable.

... added in the edit ...

In case you were wondering, the photos were taken minutes apart from each other. I was taking a series of panoramics, one with, and one without the CP. The CP series turned out much nicer (and much easier to stich, might I add).

Wow, what a difference.

On a different note... I was looking into the contents of what ships with my pro1... Or rather lack of what doesn't ship.

$700+ camera and you would expect a power cord right? MWAAHAHAHAH wrong!

So I was on Ebay Thursday night and found this: Canon CG560, CA560, CB560 Travel/ Car Charger originals. This is the dual charger, car charger and direct power cord from the wall. $71 + $9 shipping = $80 total. That's easily over $230 in all the cords....

I had 3 computers on the auction the last 30 minutes. No bids.. $44.99 was the price. Sweet... Then some turd burgurlar puts a bid in for $70 with 12 seconds left. I had a max bid of $80. I had my friend Andy watching the one and getting ready to bid up to $100 if need be. I won. But I was freaking out. Hehe.

WEWT..

Next I'm getting the polarized filter, then a telephoto and macro lens.... And I'll be asking about help on that next. ;)

Not sure what you need the power cord for. The charger plugs directly into the wall. No cord needed.
