Hm... come to think of it... I haven't even noticed there wasn't a power cord. :D Guess that feature isn't a factor for me. Besides, the battery must be taken out to be charged, cannot be charged through the camera. (At least last I checked the manual that was true.) G'luck and happy shooting.

Well, I can use the camera while it's plugged in etc... without a battery, and have it charging while in the car, at home etc. Now I can charge 3 batteries at one time. ;)

Call it anal or whatever you want, but I feel I should have power cords and for what I paid, you can't get one of them for that price. ;)

I know my G5 I could charge while it was plugged directly into the camera, but who knows about the PRO1. It arrives today or tomorrow. But I can't open it until Christmas. Bastards!

I almost got some accessories for my S1 IS...

But then look... you shoot everything as you say. Why not just go DSLR route? If you can throw away a grand on Pro1 accessories why not just get a Drebel?

It focuses faster... It a better camera...

Sure, jwcdds has a nice set of accessories for that camera, each costing 50-100 bucks right? But it's camera specific. They depreciate fast.... etc... Do you think you'll be able to sell that extension tube for 50 bucks and get your $$ back? no.

Do you think that "canon close up filter" costs nearly as much as they charge for it? no

Just think about it. You can get a rebel. For 70 bucks you can get a LENS... 50 f/1.8... For around 10 bucks you can get a used set of 52mm close up filters and you'll have your macro lens which doesn't depreciate as fast and gets you the same quality.

Just something to think about.

Thanks, but you're not reading any of my posts. If you read, you would have seen: "And then next summer I'll be going SLR since none of the cameras I own have the bulb feature because I'm bigtime into night photography."

This is to replace my recently destroyed camera thanks to a friends child. This is for the UE adventures and daily pictures. I already am looking into the DSLR as you can see if you read my posts but not until next summer. I appreciate you're advise on going to DSLR, but since this was a gift, and my friend got this for me for Christmas, I'm fine with not "wasting" the money.

And I know that items depreciate, as do what you own. That is not my concern. This camera was a Christmas gift and next summer I am getting a DSLR for night pictures mainly. I like the bulb feature and 30second to 30minute exposures are what I am looking for. I do this for fun.

If you're talking about comparing stacked filters to reverse macro with a 50mm prime lens, then the answer is "No." So far, this is the type of result I can achieve with stacking 3 filters (two 250D and one 500D):

1) household ant. I did a little resizing and cropping:

HTTP response: NOT FOUND | MIME changed to 'image/gif'

2) bee. No cropping done. Resized from 3264x2448 to 800x600.
IMAGE NOT FOUND
HTTP response: NOT FOUND | MIME changed to 'image/gif'

3) same photo. 800x600 crop at 100% view. No resizing done.
IMAGE NOT FOUND
HTTP response: NOT FOUND | MIME changed to 'image/gif'

...

As far as I can tell, the detail captured by the reverse macro technique is nothing short of phenomenal. Stacking the 3 filters, giving me +10 diopter, cannot compete with the reverse macro technique. But if you're determined enough, I'm sure you can also use the reverse macro technique with the pro1. I just happen to not have any SLR lenses to try. 8)

Using a 50 mm lens reversed is basically using a highly-corrected +20 close-up lens. And it will work on any camera you can mount the lens to.

jwcdds, I noticed you have the pro 1 with the 420ex. I need an external flash for interior shots for insurance purposes and was wondering if the 420 is the right choice for the pro1? I am just looking for a flash which will give me the necessary light for an occassional large room. Have you had any difficulties with your 420 with the pro i? Would really appreciate any knowledge you could share with me. Thanks.

would you users with pro1 cameras and 420ex flash units say you are satisfied? I need an external flash for interior shots of rooms, furniture, etc for insurance purposes. As many of the rooms are large, the built in flash of the pro1 falls off and just doesn't so the job. I am just wondering about the compatability of the pro1 and 420. Any issues which would make it a poor choice? Any help greatly appreciated.

Well, IMO, flash photos look better/best when it's bounced off the ceiling. So do you have a relatively low white ceiling to help disperse the light? If not, then you can get the stofen omnibounce (or use the white index card trick).

The other issue is how far are you from these objects (furniture). The 420ex is definitely stronger than the built-in but at the same time, if you're planning to shoot an object 30 feet away... you can only do so much with the external flash.
