These guys got delivered today by the postman. They arrived in great shape and were happy to have a drink of cool water... probably their first drink ever as they are only a day old

A couple more

When I was a kid I worked at my parents feed and pet store. Every spring we would get a load of chicks from the mailman once a week. Cute little guys.

the Hatchery ships them when they are one day old. They don't even know how to eat or drink. When the box shows up you have to take each chick out and dip it's little beak into the water so it knows what to do.

Sometimes they come with little metal bands pinned to their wings to identify them, ie species and sex. If a customer doesn't come to get them right away we would have to take the bands off. I always felt sorry for them when we had to do that because it looked like it hurt.

Pas...they are cute.I have three broody hens right now, debating as to whether or not I will let them sit.

Feed here has gone up to $10.50 a bag! Insane.all the feed prices have doubled.folks selling off livestock because they cannot afford to feed them:(
