Hi guys, wondering if anyone has researched which Point and Shoot takes the best movies these days? Just want to be able to grab some descent movies with a descent P&S and don't want to by just a camcorder of any type because it will collect dust!

THANKS!

I've heard the S5 is good, and the TX-1 is pretty good too.

The S5 is a little less Point and Shoot than what I was looking for. Definitely want something I can grab at a moments notice or fit into a side pocket of a back pack at the same time.

The TX-1 image wise seems about what I'm looking for.......but it gets slammed for the ergonomics. Looks like it's just plain hard to use? Anyone have one?

Except for the TX-1 they all shoot to the same specifications; differences will be in zoom capabilities and, maybe, in camera noise being picked up. The TX-1 is more a crossover camera; it'll do HD video. If pressed, I'd pick one of the 12 MP models (G9, A650 or SD950) since they'll be contributing more real pixels to each effective pixel. thus damping sensor noise some.

Hi all, thanks so much for the suggestions. I should have specified that I'm looking for a "compact" camera.......you know, to just throw in your pocket or something.

So far the TX-1 is just about what I'm looking for! It has a few negatives (found at DPreview (external link)) like the ergonomics, meaning it looks like a pain to take pics with and hold for too long while filming. Plus a small LCD....no optical. Second it says that because it uses Mpeg format you'll need a BUNCH of SD cards to hold the data.

So at this point I'm going to expand my search outside of the Canon realm and see what others have to offer. Except for Sony! I don't care what they got! (LOL)
