Help with speedlite 430ex

My Canon Speedlite 430ex yesterday showed on the LCD screen "ETTL M ZOOM 14 MM" I thought that the minimum zoom for this flash was 28mm. Also it did not allow me to change the zoom or set it to automatic. Is this a defect in the flash or am I doing something wrong?

Sounds like you have the wide-angle adapter pulled out.

Thankfully because of that fact, the irony of me being the first one to reply to this thread and giving advice on the 430EX won't quite sink in.

Hey, I've learned my lesson :p! The DAY after that incident I went and bought a big set of rechargeable energizers just for the flash...:oops:
