LARGE ISO1600 Hockey Shot

[accidentally posted in the share photos forum as well, sorry for double post]

I was again impressed with the noise levels of the 20D at ISO1600.

HERE is a 50% cropof picture #4 in my other thread to show how little noise is present at ISO1600. This is converted with Photoshop CS with sharpening, luminence, and colour reduction of 10,10,15 respectively. No noise reduction at all.

This would be a good representation of how clean a 8x10" print would look.

Haha, it was taken with the 135F2L with 1.4x Extender [thru plexiglass, hehe]
189mm, F2.8, ISO1600, 1/1250sec.
Im not sure if arena plexiglass is Canon L glass though

189mm, F2.8, ISO1600, 1/1250s

You can see a bit of glare from the plexiglass. I was about 6 rows back. They have to start making L plexiglass for these rinks.
I was going to use ISO800, but as you can see, why bother, the ISO1600 is so clean.
Plus, these guys are moving FAST! Even at 1/600s you will still get some blur.
I used Auto White Balance, but moved the White Balance in PS CS Raw to make the image slightly cooler.

Yup, 20D.
Btw, I am a Leaf fan. I always wanted to see a game at MLG since I was a youngster, and I never got a chance
If I ever get a chance, and the NHL ever starts again, we can go to a Leaf game or something. But from what i hear, they dont allow "pro" gear in NHL rinks.

Yeah, you come here and show everyone these amazing photos of your 135 and 1.4 extender. Then we all lust for that lens and that extender. But what everyone is forgetting is what really matters. How cool your camera looks.

Now, based on these sketches alone, i think it's safe to say that the extender clashes.

How come 200/1.8 isn't listen on BH?

That's too funny Timmy! Almost lost bladder control when I saw that.
I've thought that exactly too though. Everybody wants black cameras, but white lenses.
I get the black camera, black lens, but now the darn extender clashes!

I still haven't captured many good acion shots (with puck, etc), but that will be my next assignment.

Doc, the 200F1.8 is no longer being made. I guess the demand wasn't high enough because it was SOOO expensive. But it is supposed to be awesome if you can find one used.

I was able to shoot because this isn't a pro game. But, the arena "etiquette" pdf says "no professional camera equipment allowed". Like you, I wondered what is meant by "professional". So I called the arena once, and they couldnt really tell me, so in the end they recommended I leave the camera at home. Yeah right!

But somebody here told me that they arent allowed into Ottawa Senators games with their Canon DSLR.
One of the many reasons could be that a DSLR with a lens and long hood really obstructs the view of people beside you, especially if you are close to the ice.
