Yesterday was one of the first 'real' days for the Mark III and I. Long story short, I'm impressed. 1000 shots in 10 days and so far I have yet to find any reason, save for the internet, to doubt my camera.
Are there broke ones? Of course. This isn't about that. It's about posting something positive about the camera.
I used active AF point AI Servo and full high speed burst shooting in RAW. The down side to the is that there was a couple times I ran into the buffer wall prior the runner crossing the line. This camera is fast and can write more info to the card than you need. All manual mode. Settings were:
C.fnIII - 1,0 C.fnIII - 2,0, C.fnIII - 3,0 C.fnIII - 4,0 C.fnIII - 5,1 C.fnIII - 8,0. This part takes some getting used to. It's not a Mark IIn or Mark II by any means.
Yes there were OOF shots, poorly composed shots, DOF issues etc. All user error. I've also since then spent some more time microadjusting my lenses. I'm wondering though if that might be a possible crutch for poor technique?
Oh, and yesterday in Olympia...It was hot. 86 or so? Blazing sun. The field is astroturf and the rubber was soaking up all the heat. Ugh.
The camera is the best I've used yet. The 10mp, 14 bit, dual Digic makes a substantial difference in IQ I think. But on the other hand, you lose most of that in web jpegs.
Anywho - a few shots and compilations. The compilations are heavily cropped.

Thanks Snir! Probably one more track meet to get it dialed in. The long jump got really hard to shoot as it was terribly backlit.

Well, unfortunately the fuss is about the rest of the cameras out there that don't work all that great :(

Hahhah, maybe!

I will say, I was the only photographer on the field with a Mark III. Two Mark II's, three 30D's and one D200.

Argh, the lady with the D200 was having a terrible day. First off, she was in manual mode, ISO 400. Every time she took a shot the camera would change the shutter speed. I even tried it, it was the weirdest thing! Then some guy thought the javelin was thrown to close to him. So he runs away while watching the javelin and crashes right in to her. She crashes to the ground, the 120-300 and D200 separate, and it's lights out for the Sigma :(
