I tried my hand at location lighting yesterday. Let me know what you think. Thanks!

Looks like there's quite a bit of flare. Did you use a hood?

Also, I'd have set the flash on the camera right. (Same side the sun is coming from). Looks a bit more natural, since the right of her face (left for the viewer) would have remained darker then the face, instead of lighter... That's the biggest point actually.

Lastly, in the BG I see a couple of tree branches being 'repeated' a few times. Is this coincidence or a not too good clone job?

Focus is not what bothers me, its the fact the flash is too strong. Makes it look superimposed.

You had a good try and the ambient light seems to be great. You should have dialed down on your flash power some more. Fill flash should be used to reduce shadows if you have strong light facing.

Nice attempt but I suggest trying again with a softer approach with your flash.
