I made a trip to one of the local high school state regional baseball tourneys. It was a hot one for Seattle standards - mid 80s - so I stayed mostly in the ground's crew area behind home plate where it was shady and cool and shot through the fence. Overall, the park is tough to shot at with 7ft fences down each line stacked with spectators.

Lens: Canon 300 f/4 ... some + 1.4 TC.

#2!

Like the strong diagonal element his frame makes. These are all very good. If I had to pick one to critique it would be #6. The OOF batter doesn't frame the pitcher and so he ends up just being distracting.

Thanks for the C&C.

#6 - Next time out I'll get on the other side of the batter; though the first thing that grabs me in this pic is the pitcher's face.

Looks good Ronnie but I'm not a big fan of #6, I never have like that angle very much.

ive never shot baseball, but most (actually all i think) diamonds around here have the metal fencing surrounding home plate, which is fairly tall....

i dont see a way of getting these shots without being on the inside of that fence :(

Thanks, Aaagogo. I was thinking of you when I shot #6. I am not a big fan of this angle but gave 'er a try.

Like Strnge says below, put the lens up against the fence. I prefer to keep my lens hood on to protect my investment, but some folks will take their lens hood off and use their finger as a buffer between the lens and fence.

At this particular park, there's a fence door behind home plate with a 3-4 inch gap. I either shoot through the fence or the gap. The cool thing about the gap is it runs around the perimeter of the door, all the way to the ground, which allows me to get as low as my knees are able.

I am still not a huge fan of the angle, but I have seen a few that I do like.

that's neat, photo of the week.

i've noticed one thing in #7 and I get it in my images too, everything is perfect, but the face is pinkish...

i'm wondering why. my players turn out like that too, both in baseball and basketball.

btw, the image is May 12th, WSH vs NYM

Great shots! Looks like you had several games up there, the layout for the 2A state is pretty lame this year.

His skin may be a little on the pinkish side. Too much contrast? Or possibly he just has pink skin ... like me.

May 12th image??
