Pole vault air time

I have a couple thoughts.

One, the perspective of this shot isn't too good for me. I can't tell where the ground is. Is this an amazing vault? Is he only 2 meters off the ground? Hard to tell.

Two, there is no bar he's going over. I guess this is really an extension of the first comment. You need to find a perspective that shows the vaulter either relative to ground or going over the bar.

Exposure and color look good.

Good advice but I think theyre a little dark.

Shooting pole vaulting is difficult when youre not at an almost Olympic level. The venues are normally crowded with and have awful backgrounds. One thing thats difficult at this level is showing the height without showing an ugly background. Look for as many angles as you can. If youre taking a picture for a person to have and not for publication, a face may not be as important. Theyll know its them so thats not such a big deal.

Keep at it and just keep looking for good angles.

This one isnt great, but it illustrates what were talking about with perspective.

I shot a few meets this spring - my son took up pole vaulting. I wound up being asked to take pictures for all of the boys on the team - many didn't have pictures of themselves clearing the bar.
