i was researching on the 120-300 and i did read about the focusing problem, but the main concern is not the speed,

the concern is the tracking, and AF speed at the same time you are zooming in or out when trying to shoot a play..

The 120-300 is not parfocal, meaning if you zoom in or out, you must refocus with your button of choice before you fire the shutter. This, more than anything else, has contributed to OOF shots for me. Once I learned this "trick", my keepers increased markedly.

I have well over 100,000 images on this lens, and until I bought my 400 f/2.8L IS a little over the year ago, the 120-300 was my long lens, and it made me a lot of money and opened a bunch of doors.

Dennis -

This is EXACTLY what was happening to me today. I was trying to zoom and recompose to catch things (like a slide) and got ALOT of OOF shots. But, on top of that, the autofocus refocusing was intermittently failing on me - even after repair. I kept pressing that back star button, but nothing was happening and the scene remained blurry and the AF didn't snap.

So everytime you zoom with the 120-300, you must refocus? This is a REALLY GREAT thing to know that it does not work in the same way as the canon lenses do (i.e. no need to refocus after zooming in/out).

Great shots. I was a little disappointed though that there were so few. Eager to see more great shots. There's gotta be a few more out of that 475. Thanks for sharing.
