Here are some shots from this weekends basketball tournament in Santa Barbara Calif. This is an 8th grade team 14 and under. Very talented team went undefeated and won the championship.

Enjoy.

i was about to say that, under 14, dunking???

i was about to suggest, zoom in tighter, but realized that you were shooting with the 85mm.

I suggest a tighter crop.

also, i feel that it's a different angle to shot from where you're at. not the traditional place.

Yes, that is a 6'6" 14 year old. We have three kids that can dunk. This kid is over 220lbs so that is a lot of body to get that high. I have about 5 shots of this dunk. This is a full size court, actually at UC Santa Barbara which plays in the Big West conference.

I guess I could cut down the top of the photo, is that what you were thinking?

Ok, here it is with a tighter crop. Yes, this is not where I normally shoot from but there is about 2 feet between the basket and the stands as they were playing across the normal court. I was shooting from under the basket but so many people were walking in front of me, I had to move, could not get many clear shots.

I put together a little poster to give to the player for his first dunk in an actual game.

I usually sit behind the basket or on either side of the basket along the baseline. The way they ran this tournament, they split the court so they could run two games at a time on the main floor. I just could not get a good shot behind the basket (also, using the 85mm, I was just too close to the floor to get anything around the basket). I kind of lucked out as I would not have been able to get these shots if I was in my normal spot. Sometimes it just happens that way. I am 6'2" and have trouble reaching the rim (I am old so that causes gravity to double). These kids are so good they are a blast to watch.

ya i though the spot was behind the goal on the left side since most people dribble with their right hand they are usually coming in on that side.

it works sometimes and then sometimes not.

very nice set, crazy dunking at 14 though!

I would have to say though that these are missing that "pop". The pictures look pretty good so I think its mostly a PPing thing... maybe change the crops and adjust the color and contrast and sharpness and maybe a little noise clean up. Minor stuff would make these really pop I bet!

Also, look that the ankle braces on that dunker... I hate to say it, but I bet he has a short career due to injuries. I doubt they are having him wear those for first time prevention. I have a feeling he has had problems in the past and will probably have more and continued problems in the future... maybe too big too soon...

Even #15 looks stunned. He's thinking 'how can that kid dunk?!?'

#15 looks to have been beat so bad he gave up on the play......either that or the whistle blew 4 seconds before the dunk.
