Will there actually be a 5D MKII in the market soon?

The Canon EOS 5D has been in the market for sometime and newer bodies such as the 30D, 40D have surfaced to replace the 20D.

Is it time for the 5D to have a replacement with improvement for the middle of the road model. A 5D MkII? Inevitable it looks with so much talk in the net.

If there is, as one of the earlier birds who jumped onto the wagon to get a 5D when it was first launched, (http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/read_opinion_text.asp?prodkey=canon_eos5d&opinion=31511 (external link))

I feel improvements should be on the following areas
1. equiped with automatic dust remover
2. More frames per second, maybe 5-6 as it cannot be faster than the 1D's and cannot be less than the 40D's
3. Live View (though not important) as it is only usefull for shots such as above the crowd for journalist and event photography. But definitely a larger LCD and better viewing under daylight for checking photos taken.
4. Most importantly, higher ISO 6400?? but of course without the grains which would be ideal for indoor events with speed.

What are your views?

As for me I am just dieing to see the improvement of what I have as the 1D's are out of my range of affordability. It is now time for me to look for a model with better improvements.

Peter

I agree with your wishes and want to add improvred AF, no need for plenty of points but I want to be able to trust them better. The 40D has it and of cause it will come on the 5D successor as well.

I'd also like to see weather sealing added. The dust removing feature would be better applied if the camera had seals.

I can see the 5D having everything that the 40D has, except the 6.5fps. Probably more like 5fps.

The only thing I would be interested is in from the new 5D would be how good the high ISO noise is.

Aside from the FF and MP, the ISO noise is really what the 5D is all about at least for me.

So if canon can better this by more than a stop, then I would be interested. Otherwise, I would stick with my 1D MKIII, since it already has a 3/4 to 1 stop ISO advantage over the 5D.

The 5D should be a 1D MKIII in a Crop body, with FF sensor, similar noise levels, most likely a tad better, 5 fps (as opposed to 10), and weather sealed.

I could care less about the MP count however I would guess they will increase that to > 15MP.

Oh yeah...please put a decent LCD on it.

If they can keep it around $3000, it would be a doozy!

I agree with Nick, that's how I picture the new 5D Mark II too.

It will likely be in the $3000 to $3500 range. You can easily get a 1D MK III for $3500 :)

Hi everybody, this is my first post in this forum which I just discovered. I post mostly in the Outdoor Photographer forum but decided to check this one out.
I'm dying to get my hands on a 5D MkII and so far this is what I found out from a friend close to Canon (please take it all with a grain of salt):

- 15.3 (or maybe 16.7) Megapixels (full frame sensor, of course)
- 6 fps
- Dual Digic III processors with supposedly the best Noise Reduction in the market (including 3rd party software)
- AF system with 29 points (12 cross type for f/2.8 or faster)
- Weather Sealing same as 1Ds Mark III (there you go Pat, now you can play in the desert wind, lol)
- LiveView
- ISO 12800 (25600 in extended mode)

Price: $3499

The original post I wrote is here, hope some of you will decide to join the happy gang at OP:

Those specs sound familiar, and old.

If the price is at $3500 it would be Malaysian Ringgit 11,400 and I paid MR12,300 IN 2006 when the exchange rate was higher then. Anyway you do give hope.

What about in-body IS ???
That would be sweet for those of us that shoot w/ 24-70 & 16-35 !!!

I can live without higher FPS, Live View, MP. ... But I would be the first in line to purchase if it had improved AF system, Higher ISO/low noise, weather sealing, and in-body IS. ;)

Same specs as the rumor on DP Review that claimed an announcement on April 22 (external link). Not saying your rumor is wrong, but we've seen these numbers before.

IS is totally impossible with a FF camera. The sensor would be moving out of the image circle.

I envision a drunken outfielder trying to catcha basedball, miss...

Seriously, will there be a new 5D? My local shop tried to tell me this is a big lie. Then they wanted to sell me a 5d, do you think they had an alterior motive?
