Am Thinking about a used 1DsMK1 around 53,000clicks

5D and 1Ds both full frame.

iso noise performance? better on 5D?

continuous burst shooting pretty close

1D build is tank.some weathersealing

Any other comments?

This comparison's been done a few times on here - do a search and you may find some thoughts...

The 1D body that compares to the 5D is the Mk II series, especially the crop bodies 1D Mk II and the 1D Mk IIn. These have similar sensor architecture/pixel pitch to the 5D and pretty much match its high ISO/low noise performance. The 1D "classic" is an earlier generation of sensor design without that level of performance in those areas.

But, 1D owners make do and get great pics, so...

I'll save you the pain. Get a 5D, unless you shoot in the rain or need a weapon of mass destruction.

I would say get the 1ds unless you use high ISO regularly. Or are super inpatient about instant feedback.

I really like mine. Much preferred to my 30D.

Get the 5D. The 1Ds doesn't go above ISO 1600 and has worse IQ overall. Sure it has the build and handling, but the 5D gives you nicer images. Both are fine cameras though, and if you don't need ISO 3200, the 1Ds might be a fine choice.

Note that (surprisingly) the 5D is still a current model though, and is much easier for Canon to service.

The main reason to get it (at least in my book).

1D is only worth the money compared to 5D for fps in this class, Hasselblad is an other story

1DS... there is a "S" in there. Not the sport version, the studio version.
