I just got it this week and so far the softbox kit works pretty good. The housing unit that holds the bulbs is made of plastic that right off the bat tells you that this is the reason for the price. Putting the softbox together for the first time is no easy task. There is a video on their website that demonstrates how to assembly it, which helped out. The tripod stands are somewhat sturdy, but a sandbag is always recommended. As for it's performance, it diffuses the light really well, but it's not very bright.
As a side note, I've never owned any other lighting kit, so take my words with caution.
