Ford vs Chevy? I just bought a 40D. Just wondering if there are camera snobs out there, kinda like there is in the automotive world.

Seems silly to me, but then again, I'm not very experienced in the photo world either.

Thanks in advance

ROC

Canon 40D/2-kit lenses - EF 28-135 1:3.5-5.6....EF 70-300 1:4-5.6 and a 85 1.8..........No flash, no grip, cheap tripod and cheap mono. I'm new to photography and I'm here to learn as much as I can. First question.............why are a couple of new lenses gonna cost me more than my first car did?:p

Both brands definately have their fair share of "Fan Boys."

However, both brands also have a loyal user base which (in some? many?) cases is a legacy from their film bodies.

I shoot Canon digital because I shot (and still shoot) Canon film.

They're both great camreas. I shot with Canon F-1s for years. When I went digital I went Canon but more because I wanted FF and the 5D was my choice. Nikon didn't have FF at the time.

I think it's about the same. I really have nothing bad to say about the other camera brands out there, I just got started on Canon with film bodies and lenses and moved into digital.

Or like Apple vs Microsoft?

It happens everywhere, not just in photography and automotives.

XBox vs PS3? Or Fender vs Gibson? Nike vs Adidas? ManU vs Liverpool? Crumpler vs Domke? Tamrac vs Lowepro? Velvia vs Kodachrome? HP5+ vs Tri-X? Boeing vs Airbus? Alliance vs Horde? D&D vs Warhammer? Nokia vs Sony Ericsson? Prime vs zoom? LightRules vs Ed Rader?

The list could go on forever.

IMO, Canon and Nikon both make great products and each have their pros and cons just like anything else (your Ford/Chevy comment is pretty much right on IMO). I went with Canon digital simply because I shot Canon film cameras previously. I started shooting a Canon film camera because I got a great deal on a lightly used one. Canon kept me happy so I stuck with 'em and with a nice kit built up now, I'll stick with Canon unless they somehow completely drop the ball.

I kind of figured so much. I was in a camera shop and was talking with the guy...........I mentioned 40D, he thought I said D40. When I innocently corrected him, he looked at me with a deer in the headlight look and said........"oh".

No biggee to me. I can't use either of them to their potential, so I'm basically happy with anything at this point...till I learn more.

OK, now I gotta get back to Bens thread for the newbies and SLR's:D

They are more like BMW and Mercedes, both at the top of the industry, with class leading technology, but both go about it quite differently, and have their own fan bases.

GM and Ford both still make cars with leaf springs and live axles.

So long and thanks for all the flash
