choosing between Canon and Nikon is like comparing Coke and Pepsi. you can't go wrong with either (err, i meant the cams). since they're both top class photography equipment makers, it boils down to their lens lineup and price differences. snobs? not that i know of, even people i know of using Hasselblads and 1DSes are not snobs, just very very rich!!

Campy vs. ShimaNO

heh heh heh.

Those of us that ride 25 miles / day just to work and back don't run Campy. I need equipment that I can obtain locally and immediately should I need to.

But I'm riding a steel Bianchi SS frame with Shimano 8 speed internal hub, full fenders, rack and lights. To me reliability and side of the road repairability are all that matter.

I don't want to have to call in sick because my Camagnishimanalo derailler wadded itself up due to heavy ice buildup. My bike is all about being there in all weather.

I'm not a camera snob. Just a Canon Loyalist. Apart from my very first camera, that old Russian contraption the Zenit E ll my camearas have been Canon, even camcorders. Touch wood, I have never had any real issues or complaints with Canon gear and the build quality and results are always very satisfying. That doesn't stop me appreciating other brands especially Nikon. I like the look and feel of both the D300 and D3 and just I'm a little bit jealous of the features these cameras offer. But I know that the replacement for the 5D when it comes will be even better :)
I have already put some cash aside to snap one up as soon as it becomes available.

Mike

GM seems to be below industry average. Oh, and look at BMW.

What they don't tell you is the list also includes any recalls, voluntary or otherwise, and that a large chunk of the survey is based on a very subjective analysis by the buyers of the car.
It also does not match other surveys taken in other parts of the world, which tend to be quite consistent with each other.

So long and thanks for all the flash

Better forums - I swapped over to Canon from Nikon because 'POTN' is so much better than 'Nikon Cafe' or 'Nikonians'...

I have to disagree.

People only buy Nikon because thier Daddy had one, the Canons are a far superior product £ for £, have better lenses and theres a really pretty lass with cracking norks who works in my local camera shop and she said so. If I agree with her she may come out for dinner ......

By the time you realise that this signiture isn't worth reading, its too late.

Except that Pepsi is a vile substance. Ahem, anyway.. I've had the opportunity to play with both and Nikon definitely has some strong points. I went with Canon because of their sensor, which is less affected by noise. Of course, Nikon is now catching up, though they do tend to be a bit more expensive in terms of the price of lenses and such, but this can be mediated by going 3rd party for lenses.
